Product Category Rules
PDs communicate quantified life cycle–based information which is calculated by applying the LCA methodology following specific calculation rules, i.e., Product Category Rules (PCRs). Among other aspects, PCRs define:
- the product category,
- the unit to which data and results refer to (i.e., FU, or declared unit when the EPD does not cover the
full life cycle), - the system boundary (i.e., which specific processes need to be assessed),
- how to allocate burdens in case several products and co-products are produced at the same time,
- data quality requirements,
- impact categories and impact assessment methodology.
