Company Overview
Solar Control Glass
Emirates Float Glass LLC (EFG), established in 2009 by Dubai Investments PJSC, is the UAE’s first fully integrated float glass manufacturing facility. Located in Abu Dhabi, the plant spans 320,000 square meters and was developed with an investment of AED 692 million. EFG operates a high-tech float line licensed by VITRO (formerly PPG USA), producing up to 600 tons of clear molten glass daily. Its advanced MSVD coating line, equipped with 20 cathodes from Applied Materials GmbH, enables the production of 3.5 million square meters of EmiCool® solar-control and Low-E glass annually. The recent addition of the TERRA-G coater has expanded its capabilities to include double-silver and color solar-control coatings tailored for hot climates.
EFG’s product portfolio includes clear, tinted, and reflective float glass, with a strong emphasis on energy-efficient solutions under the EmiCool® brand. These products are widely used in architectural and automotive applications, especially in regions with high solar exposure. The company exports to over 65 countries across five continents and has earned accolades such as the Zayed International Foundation’s “Emirates Award” for environmental excellence and the Green Eco Label Award. With its blend of cutting-edge technology and sustainability-driven innovation, EFG has positioned itself as a global leader in high-performance glass manufacturing.
Main Findings: GWP-GHG
The Declared Unit (DU) of this LCA is 1 sqm and the findings below are expressed as kgCO₂e/DU.
| Impact Category | Unit | A1 | A2 | A3 | A4 | A5 | B1-B7 | C1 | C2 | C3 | C4 | D |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GWP-GHG | kgCO₂e | 2.91E+01 | 1.36E-01 | 1.13E+00 | 3.93E+00 | ND | ND | 0.00E+00 | 1.96E-01 | 7.80E-01 | 2.60E-01 | -3.61E+00 |
This indicator includes all greenhouse gases, excluding biogenic carbon dioxide uptake and emissions, as well as biogenic carbon stored in the product, as defined by IPCC AR6 (2021). The indicator aligns closely with the Global Warming Potential (GWP) outlined in EN 15804:2012+A2:2019, incorporating updated characterization factors and environmental impact indicators. Reading example: 1.57E-03 = 1.57*10⁻³ = 0.00157.
